Young Horse Show Preview 2023.
Less than 30 days until the National Young Horse Jumping Championships, a lot is happening at this prestigious event, so read this quick preview to get excited for what is coming up.
New Format
The show is now four days in the beautiful Hawkes Bay, up one day from three. The first day, Thursday, has only five classes. The first qualifies for the four, five, six and seven-year-old horses, and a 1.35m height class for the CSI1* 1.40m horses to warm up around. The four young horse qualifiers run in the ECPH Young Horse Ring, while the 1.35m class runs in the East Coast Powerlines Premier Arena.
Friday
Friday is the first full day of jumping, with the second qualifiers for the four young horses classes. As well as being the second qualifier, this day features the style prize for each age group where the winner receives a sash, rig and $100.
In the Premier Arena, the day starts with some height classes but then the late afternoon is the FEI CSI 1* 1.40m class, always a very popular event at the Young Horse Show.
Saturday
If you pick a day to be in Hastings, Saturday is the day with the Young Horse Championships finals being jumped. The top qualifying horses from the first two days will compete with a call-back jump-off for those horses on zero faults after three days.
In the Premier Arena, it is a busy day starting with the Junior Rider, followed by the Gelding/Stallion 1.30m and then the Mare 1.30m.
In the evening is the Kyrewood Park Charity teams event, where teams of two will compete over two rounds at 1.25m; more to come on this!
During the day, Northern Hawkes Bay Show Jumping and Dunstan are running a Sponsors & Breeders Lunch. There is a cocktail function in the evening for an Awards Presentation of the Young Horse Championship Winners. Of course, great music to dance into the evening.
Sunday
But the show is not over yet! On Sunday, spectators can enjoy the Amateur and Pro Amateur rider classes in the young horse ring. Over in the Premier Arena is a Horse Mini-Prix and Horse Grand Prix Series to round off four days of jumping.
Live Stream
Friday and Saturday will have the Young Horse Arena live-streamed for those who cannot make it; free to view and will be hosted on the Equine Science NZ Website.
